The Priming Technology for Increasing Seed Viability by Using KNO3 , K3PO4 , and Plant Growth Regulators in Cacti

Abstract
The experiments were conducted to develop the technology for increasing the viability of the seeds of cacti, Eriocereus tortuosus and Hylocereus trigonus, by priming with KNO©ý (50, 100, and 200 mM), K©ýPO©þ (50, 100, and 200 mM), GA©ý (1, 10, 100 and 500 ppm) and NAA (0.1, 1, 5, and 10 ppm). The germination rate of Eriocereus tortuosus treated by 200 mM KNO©ý was higher at 20¡É than at 25 and 30¡É. The effect of K3P04 on the germination rate of Eriocereus tortuosus wasn¢¥t significantly different from control. The priming periods for Eriocereus tortuosus was longer than 3 days at 20¡É. The germination rate of Hylocereus trigonus was increased by the treatment of 200 mM KNO©ý at 25¡É. All the treatments of K©ýPO©þ except 50 and 100 mM at 30¡É reduced the germination rate. The priming periods for Hylocereus trigonus was longer than 3 days at 25¡É. While plant growth regulators didn¢¥t show significant effect on the germination rate of Eriocereus tortuosus, they increased the germination rate of Hylocereus trigonus at 20 and 25¡É as compared to the control. Neither priming treatments nor plant growth regulators have any effect on shortening the days to 50% of final germination rate (T_(50)) of Eriocereus tortuosus and Hylocereus trigonus.
